If you are used to opening Uber when you land, Armenia will surprise you — there is no Uber here. Instead, locals and visitors use two apps: Yandex Go and GG. Both work at Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) and are the cheapest convenient way into the city, only about 12 km (20 minutes) away. Here is how they work and when a taxi still makes sense.
The two apps: Yandex Go and GG
GG is the home-grown Armenian app (gg.am) and is hugely popular in Yerevan; Yandex Go is the regional app used across much of the former Soviet space. Both do the same job: you set your destination, see the price up front, and get matched with a nearby driver whose car and plate show in the app. It is worth installing both before you fly — if one is quiet at your arrival hour, the other may have a car closer.
- Set them up before you travel, adding a card if you want to pay cashless (both also accept cash — tell the driver, or it defaults by settings).
- You will need mobile data — pick up a local SIM or eSIM in the terminal, or use the airport Wi-Fi to order before you step outside.
- Armenian and Russian dominate; the app removes any language barrier over the destination and fare.
How airport pickup works
The process is the same as anywhere, with one airport quirk — the pickup point:
- Order once you have your bags and are near the exit, not while you are still at the belt.
- Walk to the designated pickup area outside the arrivals hall — the app pin shows the exact spot; it may be a short walk from the door rather than right at the kerb.
- Confirm the car and plate in the app before you get in, and check the destination is set.

Tips for a smooth ride
- Have a SIM or data ready — the apps need it. Buy a local SIM in the arrivals hall if you don't have roaming.
- Deep-night arrivals: Yerevan gets a wave of flights around 3–5am; driver numbers thin then, so keep the taxi rank as a backup.
- Carry some dram in case you pay cash or switch to a taxi.
- Save your hotel as the destination in advance to avoid any address confusion.
- Prices vary with demand and hour, so treat any figure as indicative and check the live quote.
